      2019 NAIT Peatland Field School

      NAIT 3rd Peatland Field School: Peatland Ecology Field Course September 9 to 11, 2019 Day 1: NAIT main campus (PIC 232), Edmonton, Alberta. Parking recommended at M East Parkade, see map below.  Days 2 to 3: Field location (Slave Lake). Bus pickup is at Slave Lake Inn & Conference Centre, 7am. The NAIT Centre for Boreal Research is offering a three-day hands-on training session led by Dr. Dale Vitt and Dr. Bin Xu.  Participants will: 1. Learn key characteristics of Alberta's common peatland types and their associated vegetation2. Participate in classroom training on peatland ecology, classification, bryophyte biology/ecology, and peatland restoration3. Practice peatland classification, bryophyte identification, data collection, and analysis of peatland vegetation and chemistry in the field Instructors:  Dr. Dale Vitt Southern Illinois University Carbondale Dr. Bin Xu Centre for Boreal Research, NAIT Melissa House Southern Illinois University Carbondale Cost: $650 per person (includes training material, transportation to field, and field lunch and snacks). **Accommodation Information:** NAIT has reserved a discounted room rate with Slave Lake Inn & Conference Centre for participants of the Peatland Field School.
