Lougheed College Lectures sponsored by Syncrude hosts Francine Pelletier

Listen. Learn. Lead. The lectures this year are organized around the theme of ‘what’s next for Alberta?’ With a new provincial government and an upcoming federal election, intensifying pressure to address climate change and diversify Alberta’s economy, a moral obligation to take up the TRC’s calls to action, and a series of transformations – technological, generational and organizational - the series invites people to grapple with pressing issues and debates. Engage with us on dynamics that are already impacting us and will shape our futures. Our first lecture of the series features Francine Pelletier speaking on Leadership in Politics.   Francine Pelletier’s career spans co-founding and acting as editor-in-chief of the women’s monthly magazine La Vie en rose (1980-87), to social and political commentary in a weekly column in Montreal’s largest French daily, La Presse (1988-92), as well as on Peter Gzowsky’s Morningside on CBC radio (1988-91), CTV’s Sunday Edition (1990-92) and PBS’ The Editors (1990-92). She spent five years (1995-2000) as co-host of CBC’s flagship current affairs program, the fifth estate. In the spring of 2001, Pelletier begun a new career as an independent documentary filmmaker and screenwriter. In January 2013, Pelletier took up a weekly column again, this time for the national Quebec newspaper Le Devoir. She has an MA from the University of Alberta and has been teaching at Concordia's Journalism Department since 2015. Be informed, challenged, and inspired by local, national, and international leaders from government, business, academica, and the cultural and nonprofit sectors. The Lougheed College Lectures sponsored by Syncrude present exceptional speakers from interdisciplinary backgrounds. They will share their perspectives and insights on the leadership needed to face the complex challenges of the 21st century.
