      EVENT DETAILS
Lougheed College Lectures sponsored by Syncrude hosts Robert Saik

Celebrating its fifth year, the 2019 Lougheed College Lectures are organized around the theme of ‘what’s next for Alberta?’ With a new provincial government and an upcoming federal election, intensifying pressure to address climate change and diversify Alberta’s economy, a moral obligation to take up the TRC’s calls to action, and a series of transformations – technological, generational and organizational - the series invites people to grapple with pressing issues and debates. Engage with us on dynamics that are already impacting us and will shape our futures. Robert Saik addresses the topic of Agriculture in his lecture, Food 5.0: How we feed the future.   While denominations such as paleo, vegan, and organic debate which is “the way,” we’re ignoring a truth that affects us all: to support a population nearing 10 billion by 2050, agriculture must become infinitely sustainable. In Food 5.0, Saik takes you on a journey from the “muscle era” of farming to a future where the convergence of new technologies make infinite sustainability achievable. With the veil lifted on modern agriculture practices, you’ll be inspired to contribute to a culture where farmers can adopt the science and tools they need to carry out their mission of feeding the planet. Robert Saik has forty years of experience as a Professional Agrologist, entrepreneur and an international consultant who's worked with a wide variety of agriculturalists from Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture to Bill Gates. His latest book, “FOOD 5.0 How We Feed the Future” is a pragmatic look at the five iterations of agriculture, culminating in an examination of how technology convergence is reshaping the farm and the consumer. Visit Robert Saik's website to find out more about him. Be informed, challenged, and inspired by local, national, and international leaders from government, business, academica, and the cultural and nonprofit sectors. The Lougheed College Lectures sponsored by Syncrude present exceptional speakers from interdisciplinary backgrounds.
